Background Information
The SPS portion of the LTPP program is divided into 9 experiments. Unlike
the GPS, in which experiments are divided by pavement type, SPS experiments are
grouped by study parameter. A single experiment can contain more than one
pavement type, for example, SPS-8 contains both flexible and rigid type
pavement structures. Most SPS sites contain a single type of pavement
structure, either AC or PCC, however there are some sites which contain both AC
and PCC pavements. Below is a list of the SPS experiments:
- Strategic Study of Structural Factors for Flexible Pavements
- Strategic Study of Structural Factors for Rigid Pavements
- Preventive Maintenance Effectiveness of Flexible Pavements
- Preventive Maintenance Effectiveness of Rigid Pavements
- Rehabilitation of Asphalt of Concrete Pavements
- Rehabilitation of Jointed Portland Cement Concrete Pavements
- Bonded Portland Cement Concrete Overlays
- Study of Environmental Effects in the Absence of Heavy Loads
- SUPERPAVE Asphalt Binder Study
