Fugro Consultants Video Edge Drain
Video Inspections for Subsurface Edge Drain Systems
Achieving successful
performance and service life of most highway pavements is dependent upon
diverting water from the base and subgrade materials. As part of FHWA's
Demonstration Project No. 87 Fugro Consultants introduced State Highway
Agencies and Contractors to this new technology "Video Edge Drain
Inspection".
Determining a specific location of subdrain anomalies
can result in significant savings of rehabilitation /reconstruction projects
costs. Agencies industry wide agree, the use of this new technology for
evaluation and maintenance purposes during successive stages of pavement
construction provides a practical method of identifying deficiencies within the
subsurface edgedrain system.
Since FHWA's Demonstration Project 87, Fugro Consultants
Pavements Group has provided 27 State Highway Agencies with video edge drain
inspection services including over 100 centerline miles in 1999 for the Florida
Department of Transportation.
INSPECTION SERVICES INCLUDE:
- Video inspection of the edge drain using the closed circuit monitoring
equipment
- A summary of the identified deficiencies and their locations
- Video tape(s) of the edge drain inspection conducted
- Color prints of anomalies identified
The video inspection data collected by our technicians will enable
agencies to determine:
Condition Evaluations of existing edge drain systems prior to the
preparation of plans and rehabilitation projects.
Quality Control-Quality Acceptance inspections to determine proper
installation and insure a properly functioning edge drain system by eliminating
sags, breaks or crushed segments on new construction.
Maintenance and Rehabilitation monitoring to identify problem areas
within the edge drain system and determine the appropriate maintenance
strategy.
